How to add a tracing background to create a floor plan in Infurnia

Updated over a week ago

To begin

You can upload an image or DWG file, and use it as a tracing background to create a floor plan in Infurnia.

To do so, go to the Floor Level in 2D. Click on the Floor icon in the Global Preferences and Settings bar in the bottom left. In the panel that opens, click on Tracing Background.

There, click on Image or DWG File (beta) depending on what you want to upload or change the tracing background to, and that respective panel will open up.

Upload/Change background (for both Image and DWG file)

Select Upload/Change Image option therein, and a file browser window will open up from which you can select the image/DWG file you wish to upload. Click on the required file and select Open to load the file as a background.

Set Background scale

Image

To change the scale of the background, click on the Floor icon in the Global Preferences and Settings bar in the bottom left. In the panel that opens, click on Tracing Background. Click on the Image tab, and then select Set Background Scale.

The measuring tool opens up. Use this to draw a line going from corner to corner of a wall you know the dimensions. As soon as you draw this line, a new popup will open up. Enter the exact intended length of the wall here, and click Submit. Your image will be scaled accordingly.

You can then add walls/doors/windows on top of your image.

DWG File

To change the scale of the background, click on the Floor icon in the Global Preferences and Settings bar in the bottom left. In the panel that opens, click on Tracing Background. Click on the DWG File tab, and then select Set Background Scale.

Go to Edit Scale Factor and enter the desired scale into the Scale field.

Move Background (for both Image and DWG file)

To move the background on the canvas, click on the Floor icon in the Global Preferences and Settings bar in the bottom left. In the panel that opens, click on Tracing Background. Click on Image or DWG File (beta) depending on what you want to move, and go to Move Background.

Enter the value for right shift and downward shift.

Delete Background (for both Image and DWG file)

To delete a background, click on the Floor icon in the Global Preferences and Settings bar in the bottom left. In the panel that opens, click on Tracing Background. Click on Image or DWG File (beta) depending on what you want to delete. Click on Remove Existing Background.

Edit Layer Visibility (DWG File)

To enable different layers of the DWG background, click on the Floor icon in the Global Preferences and Settings bar in the bottom left. In the panel that opens, click on Tracing Background. Click on the DWG File tab, and then select Edit DWG Layers.

Check/uncheck the boxes against the names of the layers you want visible/invisible, and select Apply to save changes.
