To generate high-quality renders in Infurnia, understanding and properly setting up material specifications is crucial. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to navigate the material settings and utilize the material editor for optimal results:

Accessing the Material Editor

  1. Via Settings:

    • Go to the Materials tab in the Settings section.

    • In the dropdown, you will see materials imported from the catalog.

    • Click on the material you want to edit, and select the Change button next to it.

    • The Material Editor tab will open, displaying all details of the material and a material preview.

  2. Using the Pick Tool:

    • Select the pick tool from the toolbar.

    • Click on any material in your design.

    • The Material Editor will open with the selected material's details.

Material Preview Options

The Material Editor provides three preview options to help you understand how the specifications will affect your render:

  1. Texture Preview:

    • This view shows the texture applied to the material, giving you a direct view of the material’s surface.

  2. Cube Preview:

    • In this view, you can preview the material applied to a cube, which is useful for visualizing roughness, metalness, specular, texture, color, and any bump or normal map effects.

    • Adjust parameters like specular and see the changes in real-time in the preview.

  3. Sphere Preview:

    • Similar to the cube preview, but applied to a sphere.

    • This can help in understanding how the material will look on rounded surfaces.

Adjusting Material Specifications

In the Material Editor, you can modify various parameters to achieve the desired look for your material:

  1. Specular:

    • Increase or decrease the specular value to adjust the shininess of the material.

  2. Normal Map:

    • Increase the normal map intensity to add more depth and realism to the texture.

    • Upload a different normal map JPEG if needed and adjust its intensity accordingly.

  3. Bump Map:

    • Adjust the bump map by uploading a new JPEG and changing its intensity.

    • This will affect the surface relief of the material, adding a tactile feel to the render.

  4. Roughness and Metalness:

    • Modify these parameters to control how light interacts with the material.

    • Roughness affects the spread of light reflections, while metalness gives the material a metallic appearance.

By fine-tuning these specifications, you can ensure that the materials in your design look realistic and meet your rendering standards. Regularly checking the material preview while making adjustments will help you achieve the best results.
